*****

1- What is the most difficult for you to write: Characters, conflict, emotions?

Conflict – always!! For me, this is the biggest challenge because you have to pin down a conflict (often more than one) that is real and sustainable for the length of the story you are telling. I prefer to write around the 25,000 word mark so the conflict has to be strong enough not to be resolved in a few pages yet not so big it needs a novel. I’ve yet to find the magic formula!

2 -  If you were going to cast the hero of your book, what actor would get the part?

Julian McMahon – whenever I sit down to write a new story, I scour pictures of the rich and famous until inspiration strikes. That’s how I start all my stories, with an image. Julian McMahon fit perfectly as Sam Clarke J

3 - If you could time travel would you go forward or backward?

Backward, definitely – I am an absolute history lover. My favorite eras are Tudor and Victorian. There was so many fascinating social and political issues going on in these times – so much change. I am playing around with the idea of a Victorian novella for my next project as we speak. Watch this space!

4 - Favorite romance movie?

When A Man Loves A Woman – although the subject matter of alcoholism is the basis of this film, I think it is one of the most romantic movies ever. The emotion, the frustration, the angst and push/pull over the ripple effect of the disease is heartbreaking and so very, very real. The relationship and the hero’s love for the heroine is unsurpassed – and of course, wondefully portrayed by Andy Garcia…

5 - What is your favorite time of year?

Summer…or maybe early Fall. I love the feel of the heat on my skin (which is rare in the UK!) and being able to wear a nice, strappy dress. Having said that, I also love watching the season evolve into Fall. The new colors and changes are gorgeous, plus there’s nothing like slipping into cozy boots and a coat and taking my dog for a long walk in the forest.

Blurb:

Chef Michelle Hutton flees her controlling mother in the UK for the sun and freedom of Greece, longing for a new beginning and maybe just a bit of Zante’s local heat. Sexy, pro-bono lawyer Sam Clarke might just be the one to teach her to let go. He's sexy, capable, and totally in control. And too damn hard to resist.

Sam Clarke and his best friend had once been the baddest boys to hit the local party scene— sex, booze, and more sex—until his friend is killed. Sam turned his back on the blatant sexuality of the island years ago, but can’t resist Michelle’s desire to bask in the sun and explore the need that grows between them.

Excerpt:

Closer and closer he came, rounding the counter and standing so close to her that Michelle was forced to tip her head back to meet his eyes. The smell of him – warm, musky and clean--wafted under her nose. She inhaled…and really wished she hadn’t as her knees quivered. She took another step back until her ass hit the steel countertop behind her.
His gaze darted over her face, lingering at her lips. Michelle put a hand on his chest without thinking and then whipped it back to grip the counter.
Trepidation mixed with arousal pooled like liquid in her stomach. “Sam, talk to me. What’s wrong?”
His eyes dropped to her chest and unmistakable lust flared in eyes, darkening them to a gorgeous midnight blue. Desire pulled at her core and her nipples tightened.
He met her eyes. “Everything.”
She was trapped by the raw animal need to have him. To feel his hands on her bare skin, his mouth on hers. She licked dry lips. “You look like you’re either going to attack me or--”
“Fuck you?”
She flinched. The harsh expletive shocked and aroused her in equal measure. “What?”
His hands clamped onto her hips, possessive and unyielding. A feral storm raged in his dark blue gaze. “I need to know.”
She stared, unable to move or breathe. “Need to know what?”
“Need to know if this…these feelings…are just--”
“Lust?” The word slipped from her tongue, her mind blank of everything but Sam. The way he smelled, the lickable square line of his jaw. The yearning to have him on her, in her, over her.
The corner of his mouth twitched and a little of the fiery frustration seeped from his eyes. “Exactly.”

New Release Wed. = Meet Sandra Dailey + Give*away!

Please help me welcome the talented SANDRA DAILEY to the blog! She brought a great new contemporary for you! Sandra will pick 1 lucky winner of a PDF (e-copy) of THE CHIEF'S PROPOSAL!
Thanks for being here today, Sandra :)

Where is your favorite place to write?
I have an enclosed porch on the front of my house with a lot of windows. I’ve made a little office at the end. I can look out on the beautiful North Florida scenery while I work.
What is the most difficult for you to write: Characters, conflict, emotions?
Emotion is the hardest part for me. I grew up with military parents. We learned to soldier on without showing much reaction. I know, weird for a romance writer, right?
Do you have critique partners?
No. In my area, the closest book store is thirty miles away, the local library is closed most of the time, and the nearest RWA is over sixty miles away. No writing groups, no book clubs, and no interest. My mom helps with the mechanics, my husband with the technical stuff, and my sister with the plotting problems. It’s a family affair.
What music are you listening to lately?
I love all kinds of music. For inspiration, I like country or jazz best. For fun, I like reggae or classic rock.
Favorite romance Movie?
If I have to name only one, I’d say ‘The Wedding Date’.
What is your favorite time of year?
Summer time! I love the heat. The less clothes the better. I recently noticed that all my stories take place in the summer time. A habit I need to break.
Tropical or European vacation?
Need you ask? The Caribbean or South Pacific Islands would be great.
The blurb:
Ginny Dearing has finally realized her goal of teaching, but finding a position is proving impossible. After exhausting all possibilities, an Internet ad is her only hope. In a small town hundreds of miles away there is a job with one huge string attached...a husband.
Burned by love once, Brett Silverfeather finds his bachelor life more than satisfying. He’s facing re-election for sheriff, but this time the voters are looking for a family man. Brett finds himself pursuing a marriage he doesn’t want.
Ginny and Brett are opposite in every way, but opposites do attract. Can Brett protect his heart as well as he does his town? Can Ginny hide a secret past that could possibly destroy her future?

An excerpt:
When she opened the door, she caught her breath in a gasp. Brett stood in the center of the room. The only things he was wearing were his arm sling and a pair of black boxer briefs. The tight, stretchy garment dipped low in the front due to the nice way he filled them out. She honestly tried to look him in the eye, but on her way up, her attention was caught by the expanse of dark smooth skin over washboard abs and a wide strong chest. The man was Playgirl centerfold ready.
Brett cleared his throat. “A little help here, please? I can’t get my britches on one-handed.”
Ginny was confused until she saw the uniform pants in his right hand. He needed help dressing and she couldn’t think of who to call. Suddenly it hit her. She was his wife. He expected her to help. Would this fall into the category of for better, or for worse? And what was he doing with his uniform anyway? He’d left the hospital less than twelve hours ago.
“Why are you out of bed?”
“I got lonely,” Brett smirked. “Are you volunteering to keep me company in there? I’d be glad to crawl back in, in exchange for some serious body heat. Who knows,” he winked, “it could be mutually satisfying.”
A wave of heat overtook her entire body as her imagination kicked into overdrive. What was wrong with her? She’d never had erotic fantasies until she got to Three Trees. Perhaps it was caused by something in the water. She should have it bottled and sell it to make a fortune.
“You know I have to go to the school today,” she croaked. Embarrassed, she cleared her throat. “It’s my last chance to check out my classroom before the kids arrive tomorrow.”
Brett took a step closer. “Hmmm, I didn’t hear a no in there anywhere.”
“You were just shot three days ago.” Ginny looked as panicked as the only girl bunny in a full hutch. “I thought you’d still be heavily medicated and resting for a while.”
“I’m not taking those pain pills,” Brett stated matter-of-factly, “I need to be alert. The county doesn’t pay me to lie on my back. Instead, I plan to sit on my butt at my desk.”
“Well then, you can just go to work naked.”
Brett glowered at her. “I don’t have to. Lisa is picking me up this morning. If you won’t help me get dressed, she will.”
“Like hell.” Ginny jerked the pants out of his hand.
Brett grinned. “Careful, Dove. That almost sounded like jealousy.”
“Shut up.”
She knelt in front of him and held his pants open as he gripped her shoulder with one hand and stepped into them. Her head was turned to the side and her eyes were squeezed shut. She was leaned back at a dangerous angle.
“You have seen men before, haven’t you?”
“Of course,” Ginny said.
“Then you know there isn’t anything down there that bites.”

Friday Fun + Give*Away: Meet MIA DOWNING!

Please help me welcome the talented MIA DOWNING to the blog today! I'm so glad to have MIA here today (first time) and happy to report she'll be back next month with a new release! Yay!
Thanks for being here, Mia :)

Thank you so much for having me, Jennifer! I’m excited to be here and I’m such a fan of your writing. Rafe was a delicious find out in the mountains! I doubt I’d ever get that lucky. LOL

I’d love to give away a copy of EXCEEDING BOUNDARIES  to a lucky commenter. Make sure you leave your email addy. I’ll get back to you with the format of your choice! It’s a juicy, conflicted read, so it’s worth the comment!

    *  Was your road to publication a delightful stroll in the park or a tiring jog over hot coals?
I think it was more of a run through the park being chased by zombies. I’m lucky, I happened to be in the right place and right time when I submitted to my editor, so she saved me from the zombies. I started writing again in 2000, was a contest slut, won prizes, got rejected by a big six NYC editor over the phone with a request to write for a different line (I wasn’t ready to do what she wanted.) Then I listened to a friend who basically killed the dream with one sentence. That, along with health issues, put the dream in the trash can until this year when the stories decided they needed to be heard.

* Where is your favorite place to write?
Right now it’s on the laptop at the barn. We just got a horse, and we have two cows. They don’t all fit into the barn, and the horse is protective of his space. The horse comes out to eat, but needs to be watched (he doesn’t have a stall yet and I envision him playing Jacob’s ladder with his lead rope.) So I have two hours a day of writing time on the laptop. It’s peaceful, I take coffee, and if I spend a little longer on the laptop, the horse doesn’t complain.

* Do you have critique partners?
No. A critique partner (CP) can be a catalyst for good or evil. Unfortunately, I ended up in hell paddling the boat that goes back and forth across the River Styx, collecting coins from dead people. LOL I gave up fiction and instead turned to other venues within the business (technical and ghost writing.) But I couldn’t stay away, so finally I got brave. I do have two very close friends I use to bounce ideas and give more of an overview once I’ve written what I need to write. I also use a beta reader now and then. Of course my editor is a valuable tool though I try to make everything as perfect as possible before she gets the book. I do sound ideas off her, and she’s my biggest cheering section!

* What music are you listening to lately?
Each book has its own sound track and I have to go and find music that fits that scene/character. I know I have the right song when I put it on repeat and don’t hear it anymore. Weird, but that’s me.
The Spy Games series have songs that can mix and match because the characters are in every book. Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger was Kate’s music. Chase makes love to Kate to Snow Patrol’s Set Fire to the Third Bar. Charlotte loves Niki Minaj’s Starships. Jake thinks Rick Springfield’s song, Jesse’s Girl is too ironic and changes the lyrics to Chase’s Girl. LOL. Right now I’m on a 30 Seconds to Mars Kick. Jared Leto is mine. I’d like to see him on a Mancandy Monday!
Exceeding Boundaries, my first book, was written to Maroon 5’s Never Gonna Leave This Bed and a few others. Funny but I can’t listen to that song now, for this series. I only hope my characters don’t wish for country music. I hate it.

* If you could switch places with one of your characters would you?
Yes, I’ve always wanted to be Kate. She went from nerdy and frumpy to having a kick ass body, great boobs and nicer hair thanks to the government. She is optimistic and full of determination, willing to change to become what she needs to be for her job and for her relationship with Chase. Chase is not an easy man to love because he has so many facets behind the gorgeous face and bossy attitude. But more importantly, I love how she grows and becomes empowered by her new role as a spy, and how she has two men that love her so deeply. Granted, she would die first for Chase, but she loves her partner, Jake, too.

* Tell us a little about your WIP.
I just finished the last Spy Games Endgame. Charlotte Smith is a secret agent marking time until her final mission is put into play. Right now she’s Aaron James’ bodyguard. He’s an actor who got himself into a bit of trouble and needs protecting. He’s also Jake’s younger brother, who is the hero for book two, and plays an important role in book one.
And I’m also in the middle of a male/male targeted for the Boys Of Summer series TWRP has running this summer. It’s a best friends story and very heartbreaking to write at times.

Exceeding BoundarieBLURB:

Lawyer Megan Connors wants a man, one that will wine her, dine her, and help her to forget the pain of a date rape she experienced as a teen. Her boss, Adam Wentworth, is just the man--tall, dark-haired, blue-eyed, and a confirmed player. He's perfect for a weekend of non-committal sex that will entice her inner woman out to play for good. So Megan devises a plan for seduction, one that will lure Adam into her arms.

Adam has been attracted to Megan since day one, but his preference for dominance and her fragile air kept him at bay. Megan's kiss under forgotten mistletoe is just the fuel his lust needs to exceed the boundaries she once put in place. He's game, but he wants more than a weekend with the vulnerable yet sexy Megan.

When the weekend is over, will Megan allow the past to keep her bound or can Adam convince her she’s strong enough to submit?

Friday Fun: Hero Interview - Meet Win Fairchild!!

“Ladies, I have Win Fairchild with me today. Win is the hero of of my very, very good friend Vonnie Davis’s recently released novella for the Honky Tonk Heart series—Those Violet Eyes. He’s an ex-Marine who cooks part-time at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk. He’s also started a ranch for children with amputee limbs. An interesting mix, don’t you think?”

“Tell me, Win, what is Those Violet Eyes about?”

“Lost dreams, Jennifer, and what it takes to achieve them. Did you ever read the poet, Langston Hughes? There are a few lines from a poem of his that suits Evie and me. “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up, like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore. And then run?” You see, I’d lost my dream of military life, so I had to refocus to get a new dream. Evie, well, her lost dreams festered like a sore. I guess in a way you could also say our story is also one of healing. She helped me feel again and I gave her courage to focus on her dream deferred.”

I lean toward him. “I have to ask. What’s it like being one of Vonnie’s heroes?”

A slow, sexy badass smile spreads. “Oh, Jen.” His head tilts to the side and hazel eyes regard me. “May I call you Jen, or do you prefer Jennifer? My name is Sherwin, but I much prefer Win.”

Ladies, I can see how Evie was charmed. “Jen is fine.”

“Well, Jen, in the service, you get used to standing in lines. But nothing prepared me for what it was like to stand in line in Vonnie’s mind while she methodically worked her way through all the men clamoring for her attention.” He shakes his head once. “Was damn near impossible to get her attention.”

“What did you do? How did you get her to focus on you?”

“I rode into her bedroom one night…”

“You…you rode into her bedroom?”

“Yup. Yup, I did. Rode my Harley right into her bedroom. Not once, but twice. See the first time, she shot me a scowl, mumbled something about another man being the last thing she needed and then she rolled up against her husband’s back. Gotta tell ya, was glad Calvin had his hearing aids out and couldn’t hear me. He’s a couple inches taller than me. I was especially glad he slept through my crawling in bed with Vonnie…”

“You crawled in bed with your author?”

“Hey, I was desperate. A Marine does whatever it takes to achieve his mission. Semper fi. Besides, I needed her to tell my story. She sat there and listened. ‘Course had I known she’d make that goof, I might have chosen another author.”

“What goof, Win?”

“She wrote that my Humvee exploded after it ran over an IUD in Iraq. An IUD, Jen, one of those birth control devices…” He pinches the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger. “Damn woman. What kind of crack was she smokin’?”

I’m laughing so hard by this time. I mean, just his annoyed expression is priceless. “How did you point it out to her?”

“Hunh, can’t tell Vonnie anything. She’s almost as hardheaded as my Evie. It wasn’t until the final galleys came back that she noticed it. Good thing the people at The Wild Rose Press took pity on her and fixed it.” He shakes his head again. “Had to be one strong birth control device to stop a team of Marines, I tell you.”

“Let’s talk about Evie. What did you think the first time you saw her?

That she had the most incredible eyes. They’re violet and magnetic. Pulled at me, you know?

“What was your second thought?”

That she had nine feet of attitude crammed into a petite body. I do love a spirited woman.

“Did you think it was love at first sight?”

For me, yes. I mean she rocked my world, you know? Wait, is that a cliché? Vonnie has a problem with clichés sometimes. But back to Evie, I’d been emotionally numb since the IED explosion that took three of my buddies and part of my leg, but a couple minutes with her and I started feeling traces of emotion again. My Evie is something else.

“What do you like most about her?”

“Hey, what’s not to like? She’s like a tornado in a pair of pink cowgirl boots.”

“How would you describe her?”

“Fierce, spirited, intelligent and funny. She was the first person to make me laugh after Iraq.”

“How would she describe you?”

Another badass smile spreads. “Well, I’ve heard “Neanderthal” tumble from those pretty lips of hers. ‘Don Juan on a Harley’, ‘Macho Marine’, ‘Mr. I-Gotta-Chip-On-My-Shoulder.’ ‘Course that was all in the beginning. Guess you could say we had a rocky start. We were both pretty touchy. As time went on she found out I was a hard working man, self-reliant, caring, passionate. Oh, yeah, with her, most passionate.”

“What made you choose cooking as a profession/career?”

“My respect for Uncle Gus. He owns the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk and was my father figure growing up. Gotta tell you there’s no man I respect more than him. He took over when my dad left us. Uncle Gus kept me on the straight and narrow. I watched him cook a few times at his bar and got the idea I might like to do that, too. So I went to chef’s school. Things were pretty hot in Iraq when I got my chef’s hat so I joined the Marines. They were my first choice with Uncle Gus having served in The Corps back in the day.”

“How do you relax?”

“Evie and I ride horseback over Solace, my ranch. She’s a glorious sight on a horse, I tell you.”

“What is the best piece of advice you ever received?”

“My momma told me the best way to get over your own pain was to immerse yourself into helping others. That’s why I started the ranch to help children with amputee limbs. Helping them gets the focus off me. Hell, I can be damn boring at times.”

“Did Vonnie let you bring an excerpt with you today?”

A blush creeps up his neck. “Yes. And I never read over it until just now. Should have picked one myself. But this one is from the time she came to apologize.”

“What was she apologizing for?”

“Damned if I could remember once I got a look at her. Woman messes with my mind.” His gaze lifts to mine. “And my libido. There’s no one like Evie.”

Evie turned onto the lane leading to his ranch and passed a hand painted sign that read, “Solace—Private Property.”
Half-a-mile later, the ranch house came into view. Her mouth went dry and her stomach did a freefall. Win sat on the porch steps…waiting. He stood; six-foot of muscled male in jeans, torn at one knee, and a snug navy T-shirt. He came down the unpainted porch steps and her body went on full hormonal alert.
When she turned off her car’s motor, Win opened her door. Evie sat staring straight ahead, not sure if her trembling legs could support her if she got out of the car.
Win waited.
When she swiveled in her seat and started to climb out, he extended a hand. She laid her trembling palm on his warm one, stood and saw his gaze take a slow journey from her black stilettos up her legs to her short denim skirt to her black low-cut tank top. Her nipples, evidently remembering his attentions from the last time they were together, puckered into hard points as if to announce they’d come along for the ride, too. When his smoldering gaze finally reached hers, she could have sworn she had a mini-climax. There were most definitely little tremors.
Good Lord, he hasn’t even touched me sexually yet.
His eyes stayed locked on hers while his hand slowly reached out and settled at her waist. Another mini-climax hit and a soft moan escaped. They stood there, not saying a word, gazing into each other’s eyes. Win took one more step until their thighs touched. Her belly did that twitchy thing, stronger this time.
He splayed his fingers in her hair and lightly ran the pads of his thumbs over her lips.
“You’re beautiful.” His voice was soft and sensual like naked skin shifting over black satin.
Very slowly, he lowered his head and covered her lips with his. Soft, moist kisses that caressed her lips. Her hands slid up his muscled chest and around his neck. He angled his head and his gentle kiss turned passionate and hungry. He groaned and pressed her back against her car. When he leaned into her, his erection created a sweet, painful friction. He broke the kiss for a split second and moaned her name against her lips before taking control again.
His tongue delved into her mouth. When it touched hers, her body responded in a strong, powerful, feminine way, as if red and pink fireworks were exploding in her core. And still his mouth assaulted hers as if he couldn’t get enough of her.
Merciful heaven, imagine what he’d be like in bed.

New Release Wednesday + Give*Away!

Help me welcome the talented MARIE TUHART! She's brought her hot new book, HIS FOR THE WEEKEND. You can find Marie on the web at www.marietuhart.com
Please leave a comment to be entered in a $5 Wild Rose Press Gift Card.
Thanks for being here today, Marie:)

Thank you for having me today Jennifer.

His for the Weekend is a book I wrote several years ago and pushed under the bed.  After having three books under my belt with The Wild Rose Press, I dusted the book off and re-read it.  The story was sound, just needed some work.  I edited and edited, had my critique group read it, and edited some more before I sent it to my editor.  Now, I'm always nervous when I send something to my editor, what if she doesn't like it?  Needless to say, she loved it and my readers now have the end result.  Marcus and Cassie have special place in my heart.

HIS FOR THE WEEKEND

Cassandra Adams has a problem and its name is Marcus DeLuca. The man is quite determined to have her--on his terms. Cassie has had enough of domineering men in her life, yet she's drawn to strong, virile Marcus. Tempted to get that man out of her system once and for all, she agrees that she will be his for a weekend only--but then he must leave her alone forever.

Marcus will do anything to get sexy, non-committal Cassie into his arms, into his bed--failure is not an option. He wants nothing more than to keep Cassie in his life, but he senses a secret that keeps her from being able from committing--from submitting--to any man. Will Marcus's special brand of domination free her to be his for more than a weekend?

Excerpt:

“I can’t take this anymore.” Her voice was whisper soft, but he heard the words as clear as if she had shouted them.

His heart leaped—now he could prove to her there was more to him than a co-worker and give their relationship a chance. “What are you willing to give me?”

Her head snapped up and she gnawed on her lip. “Twenty-four hours.”

“Not enough. A hundred and twenty.”

Her mouth opened then closed. Her gaze darted left, then right, before settling back on his face. He could almost see the wheels turning in her head. A good sign—she was willing to be his.

“Too long. Forty-eight.”

He stood and crossed over to her. He needed to be close to her as they negotiated. “Still not enough. Ninety-six uninterrupted hours with you.”

Her nose scrunched up and her lashes swept down, cutting off the view of her expressive eyes. “Sixty—six tonight until six Monday morning.”

He noted the stubborn set to her chin. It wasn’t ideal, but he could do it. He would not fail in winning her over. Leaning close, he whispered, “I’ll take it.”

She exhaled, lashes rising until she stared at him. “What are the ground rules?”

“There are none.”

Her eyes widened. Oh, yes, he had her now and he wasn’t letting go.

“No barriers. No rules.”

Her shoulders dipped, then straightened. She acted like she was preparing for a battle, but it would be a battle of sex. “All right, but when the sixty hours are done, we’re finished. I mean it. No flowers, no gifts, no mention of this weekend. Ever.”

Without another word, she spun on her heels to walk out of his office.

He was quick to cross the room. He captured her by the shoulders, bringing her to a halt. His lips brushed her ear and a shiver shook her. “Remember what I said at the party?”

She didn’t answer him, but her swift intake of breath was the only answer he needed.

“You belong to me.”

“I belong to no man.”

He slid his hands down her arms, past her clenched fists and encircled her waist, bringing her  back flush against his chest, her breathing shallow.

She didn’t struggle, not even when he tilted his hips, letting her know how much she aroused him.

“You will belong to me. I promise.”

New Release Wednesday!!

Please help me welcome one of my favorite authors, RANDI ALEXANDER! Her writing is ...can you say, HOT, HOT, HOT? So without further ado........
Thanks for being here today, Randi!
New Release, Contest, and Book Giveaway!
I want to thank Jennifer for letting me guest blog today. I'm Randi Alexander and I write cowboy erotic romance. I'm published with The Wild Rose Press' Cowboy Kink line. My second Cowboy Kink, Her Cowboy Stud, was released March 23.
Jennifer and her readers know the appeal of a sexy cowboy. Whether they're riding the range today or did so hundreds of years ago, there's just something about a cowboy that makes us *sigh*
I enjoy watching cowboys when I go to rodeos. There are a lot of them in the stands. Young guys with their girlfriends, their eyes showing longing and envy as the bull riders take center stage. Older cowboys wearing their rodeo jackets filled with patches from wins they logged years ago.
Quite often, I'll strike up a conversation with a cowboy, ask about their patches, or comment on their boots. It's always followed by the powerful stink-eye sent my way by their lady friend. But when I mention I'm a writer, and doing research for my next book, the suspicious scowl turns to a smile, and I inevitably hear, "Oh, you could write a whole book on this one."
I've heard stories about cowboys saving livestock from raging rivers, saving people from stampeding cattle, capturing rustlers with only a flashlight, and taking down bank robbers who dared cross the wrong ranch.
And all of these stories come from the lady friend, not the cowboy himself. Cowboys are shy, for the most part. They don't brag about themselves to strangers, they think the extraordinary things they do are just part of their jobs.
And talk about considerate. They're nearly always gentlemen, raised to believe in courtesy and self-restraint. Their sense of responsibility – toward their families, their livestock, their land, and the environment – is admirable.
It's that inherent self-restraint that makes them such a fun mystery to solve. It makes me want to ask a hundred questions and try to get inside their minds. I'm heading to a rodeo in a few months, and I'd love to take your questions with me and get some real cowboy answers. What are the things you would ask a cowboy, if you had the chance? Leave a comment and you'll have a chance to win an e-copy of my first Cowboy Kink novel, Chase and Seduction.
Blurb: HER COWBOY STUD
Trace McGonagall’s quiet life on his Houston stud ranch is shaken up when gorgeous Macy Veralta arrives to claim an inheritance left to her in his uncle’s will. Trace sees her as just another gold digger, but he also can’t resist her curvy body. When she hints at being the perfect submissive to his Dom, he has to have her.
Macy wouldn’t have been three months late to claim her inheritance if she’d known Trace was sin in jeans. The cowboy’s dominant bearing and the smoldering glint in his eyes send shivers to her toes and stirs images of being bound in his bed and disciplined at his hand. But could Trace’s perfect seduction be part of his plan to reclaim her inheritance?
EXCERPT: Over 18 only please.
A loud whinny erupted from a corral followed by male shouts. Trace stared over Macy's shoulder. “Sorry, I need to tend to this.” He glanced down her legs. “You bring any sensible shoes?”
She stared at her pink painted toenails. “Yes, I have—”
“Put ‘em on and head over to the first barn. I’ll meet you there.” He took off at a lope.
She hoped everything was okay. As she watched him go, her mind blanked. Wow, she could watch him from behind for hours. His form fitting jeans showed off his really nice ass. As he jogged, his thigh muscles bunched. Impressive. Not only was he built like a stud, he owned a stud farm. Ironic? Maybe.
Maybe not.
She popped the trunk, dug out her flip flops, and slid into them. Dusting off her “take me” sandals, she set them carefully in the trunk. If all went well, she’d get to wear them again today. It was getting late, the sun nudging closer to the horizon. Would he ask her to stay for dinner? Maybe after, he might offer her a tour and a leisurely walk around the grounds. His hand on her lower back to guide her…
“Ugh.” These fantasies she had going on in her head were getting her nowhere but into trouble. She did not want to appear easy to Trace. Nor would desperate, trampy, or horny be appropriate, either. She needed to get her mind off sex.
“No. Sex.” She stole another glance at the cowboy as he climbed over a fence.
She closed the trunk and headed to the corral where Trace stood holding a rope at the head of a regal black horse. Two other cowboys led a white and black horse toward Trace’s. The big white and black looked wild-eyed, reared up, stomping down hard, baring its teeth, and snorting.
The tail of Trace’s horse was braided. As the white and black horse danced closer, she looked at what protruded between its hind legs and… “Oh. My. God.” They were going to breed them. Right there in front of her.
Macy bit her lip as a flush of embarrassment warmed her neck. She glanced around, hoping no one saw her watching. It seemed so public. Shouldn’t they do this in a barn? With dim lighting and maybe—she grinned—soft music?
Breathing deep of the earthy scent of grass and animals, she murmured, “You’re not in Chicago anymore.” This was nature’s way, a beautiful thing. Animals did this in the wild all the time. It was only humans who had issues about the splendor of the body and its inherent sexuality. This should not shock and embarrass her. Especially in her line of work.
Trace’s voice rumbled low and calm as he talked to the female horse. Mare? She knew very little about horses, except what she read in books. The male horse—stallion—seemed out of control. The cowboys each kept a tight hold on their rope as they drew nearer.
The stallion mounted the mare, driving his extra-large penis home while biting the back of the mare’s neck. The mare seemed compliant. Submissive. She liked being held tight. Mischievous thoughts flooded Macy’s mind. Ideas of Trace and her tangled together, leather and ropes.
Macy glanced at Trace, and, of course, he was looking at her. Despite her nature-girl self-talk, her cheeks warmed at his stare. But she didn’t look away.
The act was over in seconds. The stallion dismounted and the two horses brushed their noses together for a short time before going their separate ways. No awkwardness, no promises to call each other soon. No hurt feelings.
Damn. Why did that depress her? She’d rarely indulged in one-night stands, but if this cowboy offered, it would be hard to say no.
Trace handed off his horse, walked toward her, and climbed over the fence. Macy enjoyed every move he made.
Even in his dressier clothes, he was all rugged cowboy. He'd rolled his shirtsleeves to reveal heavily muscled forearms with a light cover of dark hair. The way he walked, so self-assured, made her all gooey inside. As he drew closer, her heartbeat picked up, and a zap of desire shot through her.
“Enjoy the show?” he asked, a grin curving his lips.
