Friday Fun: Meet author Mac Crowne!

Please help me welcome my friend, the talented MACKENZIE CROWNE! She's brought her SOON To Be released, GIFT OF THE REALM, a paranormal romance.
You can learn about Mac at http://macsmadmania.blogspot.com/
and I'm sure she'll let us all know the release date there too!

Thanks for being here today, Mac!

If you were going to cast the hero of your book, what actor would get the part?
So many choices. Hmmm, let’s see, Colin Quinn, who are you? I could go with Timothy Olyphant, just because I’ve loved him in his various roles. Of course, there is Russell Crowe, wowser, and Pierce Brosnan has always done it for me. Am I showing my age? But when I think of Quinn, I think of his smile.  Eric Dane would have to be it.
Do you believe in love at first sight or just lust at first sight?
You know, I’ve never really given it a lot of thought but I think lust at first sight is a precursor to love, don’t you? Okay, so you may not end up in love with all of those hotties out there who catch your eye, but that one? Oh yeah, my one definitely kicked up a little heat before love took hold.
What music are you listening to lately?
If you ask my boys they’ll tell you I find new music and play it to death before finding the next. My current favorite is the soundtrack to Burlesque. I’d never listened to Christina Aguilera before seeing the movie but, holy cow, can that girl sing. The movie is my current fave too, and hubby doesn’t mind my watching it over and over again, not with all the half naked burlesque singers doing their thing.
Tropical or European vacation?
Can’t I have both? I love the beach. Love it, love it, but I grew up in Boston and learned the value of seeping myself in history. My idea of the perfect vacation would be a Caribbean cruise followed by multiple sea days with stops in all those wonderful, ancient European ports. Of course, I’d want another swing through the Caribbean on the way home. Did I mention my friends call me Vacation Mac?
If you could switch places with one of your characters would you?
Hmmm, if I were to switch places with Keely O'Brian, my heroine in Gift of the Realm, I would suddenly be years younger. I’d be gorgeous, and as a Halfling, I’d have mystical gifts like the ability to zap myself from one place to another just by thinking. I’d live in an ancient cottage near the Irish coast, and a wicked-hot Halfling Irishman wouldn’t be able to resist me. That would be a yes! Of course I’d switch, and do so all the time! Isn’t that why we read and write after all?
What was the best advice you were given leading you to getting published?
Keep writing! Like everyone else, I received my share of form rejections, but I also received one early rejection that has always stuck with me. ‘While I can’t offer you a contract for this project, my advice is to keep writing,’ an editor told me. ‘You have a fun voice. Develop it. I look forward to seeing your name cross my desk again in the future.’ While I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant at the time, I kept writing and hopefully I’ve succeeded at following her advice.
I also have a question for visitors: In Gift of the Realm, Keely learns she is decedent from a fairie-human relationship, and as such she has magical gifts. Like her ability to zap herself anywhere by simply speaking a word, if you could have any magical gift, what would it be?

  1. I'm thrilled and humbled to be here today, Jennifer. Having an actual author I've read and enjoyed introduce my debut title is a surreal experience, since I'm still waiting for the camera crew to pop out of the bushes and tell me I've been punked. Thanks so much for letting me share a bit about Gift of the Realm, set to release on 4/25/12.

  2. Congratulations on Gift of the Realm!! Love the cover! :-) It won't be long long now - 4/25/12 - and you'll be able to share the 'gift' of your your writing! (and we'll all be here to help you celebrate!)
Regarding your interview: I, too, love cruising the Caribbean. Someday we'll be on the same ship & exchange writing stories while sipping a margarita! In answer to your question 'what magical gift would like I like to have?' (can't I have 2??) :D ...Okay, I won't be greedy - I'd love to read people's minds! You know...when you're talking to someone & wished you knew what the heck they were thinking. Some people give away their thoughts with their expression, others, you have no clue. The mind reading thing would come in handy (and would be either a gift, or a darned curse). Tee hee! Have a great weekend, Mac & Jennifer! And best wishes for fun, exciting, release day - it will be here before you know it!

  3. Thanks, Jan. I've met so many awesome women since contracting GOTR. How nice it is to walk amongst them while I realize my dream. But about that wish ~ nothing but trouble. Ask Mel Gibson in What Women Want. Yikes, I don't think my self confidence would survive knowing what people were thinking while I jabbered on.

  6. What an evocative cover, Mackenzie! Good luck with the release! The story sounds intriguing. My magic quality of choice--hummm--hard one. Maybe be able to zap myself anyplace in time--but be able to zap back just as quickly--just in case. LOL

    Great post, ladies!

  7. Hi Mac! Oooo...this story sounds soooo good. And I LOVE that cover! Woot! Great job! I had to laugh at your comment about being your characters. Love that. I feel totally the same way. Why would I want to switch places with any of my characters when I already AM my characters. LOL. Of course, the limitless bankroll, hot heroes and never ending romance wouldn't hurt either. *wink*

I would definitely want Keely's ability to zap myself anywhere in an instant. I keep hoping the transporter from Star Trek will one day appear. Or at the very least, a car that I can climb into, give my destination and then sit back and enjoy the ride. I hate driving.

Congrats on your release, hon! Here's to a boatload of sales!

  8. Thanks Barbara and AJ. The ability to zap anywhere she wanted was the first gift Keely and I came up with when we discovered her fairie heritage, because who wouldn't love the hell out of that? I'm not surprised smart women like yourselves would see the benefits. Thanks for stopping by.

  9. Wow, Gift of the Realm looks and sounds like an awesome book, Mac! Congrats on your upcoming release. LOL about switching places with your characters. You probably already lived vacariously through them, so why not enjoy the perks of being them. :)
Keep up the great work and best wishes for continued success. :)

  10. Ok I can't wait to read Gift of the Realm. With my Irish heritage, I should be able to enter into the magic very quickly! I like the cover too Mac! What power would I want? Supernatural Healing. I'd never get tired of using it... and so needed! :)

  11. LOL Joya, That's what I love about writing. I'm never alone because of the characters in my head, and I get to do so many things I would never dare, through their antics. Thanks for stopping by.

  12. I can't wait for you to read it either, Colleen. As for your wish gift, that's an awesome one, and surely more powerful, and possible, than mine. Thanks for visiting.

  13. LOL I'm such a cynic. I don't believe in love at first sight. Lust is...well...another thing. I love the cover for Gift of the Realm. It certainly looks like an amazing read. What enticed you to write paranormal stories?
If I could have a special gift, I would want the ability to time travel--any where, any time.
A very lovely blog, Mac. I wish you the very best.

  14. Darn that Colleen, she took my answer on the magical gift thing.

Hmmm...your Halfling concept has me thinking about the Nephilim. Look it up!

    Love you Mac.

  15. Thanks Sarah. I didn't start out to write a paranormal story. I never have in the past, but a weird beam of light in the mountains one night just tickled my imagination and boom, there were fairies. LOL Go figure. Thanks for stopping by.

  16. LOL Lisa, thanks for the homework assignment, and for dropping in.

  17. Mac, I am eagerly awaiting the book! This halfling thing really sparked my interest... Can I be totally vain and wish for the power of eternal youth (for me and all my family and friends)?

  18. Your fantasy, Leslie, your wish. And, if it happens to work, I'll be your BEST friend, Okay? LOL Thanks for stopping by.

  21. This story sounds wonderful. I love the cover, too.

If I had a magical power, I'd love to be able to zap my house clean, cook and do the laundry so I could sit back and read. lol

I like the leading men you picked out, too. I guess I'm showing my age as well.

I wish you the best with your upcoming release!

  22. Thanks, Karen. That's a magical power I could get behind, and the crop of gorgeous young actors is nice but I just can't look at them without seeing my sons. Since I live vicariously through my heroines, picturing one of those 'boys' would make me feel like an incestuous cougar! LOL It's all in the eye of the beholder, I guess. So glad you stopped by.
